Sheila
Dukas-Janakos MPH, LE, IBCLC
Mother
of 3 Breastfed Children
 I have
been involved in the field of reproductive maternal and child health for over
18 years. I worked in public
health for 7 years shifting my focus to babies and moms and a lactation career
after having 3 children. I earned
my B.S. in Community Health from SFSU in 1987, attended UCLA’s Lactation
Educator Program in 1991, and completed my Masters of Public Health in 1995
from San Jose State University with my theses on "Breastfeeding for the Working
Mom and/or Student." I passed the
boards to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 1996.
I
currently have a private practice and am Owner of Healthy Horizons
Breastfeeding Center in the San Francisco Bay Area, acting as a Clinical
Lactation Consultant, Health Educator, and Perinatal Educator for local
hospitals and pediatric groups. As part of my practice, I operate support groups for new Moms
and babies, and working Moms; and have provided consultations, pump rentals,
and health products for over 14 years to the community.
My specialties include suck & swallowing disorders; working and
breastfeeding; infant nutrition, care and normal newborn behavior;
breastfeeding challenges such as breast refusal, sore nipples, mastitis,
weight gain/loss, and milk supply problems.
I
am now part of a team heading up the Maternal and Child Program of the Tibetan
Children’s Project whose goal is to improve the overall health of Tibetan
children.
It is my goal to provide accurate, supportive, and
comprehensive breastfeeding support to breastfeeding families, and to provide
increasing access to high quality breastfeeding and baby products at

I have
been involved in the field of technology for over 17 years.
After working in the government sector for over 7 years, I decided I
needed to interact more with people and entered the public
sector. I have worked for many corporations throughout the
Silicon Valley and have held every possible position within an IT
organization. During this time, I became a father of my 3
children. In my quest to spend more time with my children, I
started and operated 3 capital ventures.
Most
recently, I worked at a managed services startup that was bought and
then went belly-up. However, all was not lost. During
this time, I discovered many ways in which people can reach out to
one another. While talking one day with Sheila, I discovered
we had several things in common. We both loved spending time
with our children and we both were looking to create something that
would have a lasting effect. From this, Babiesandmoms.com
was born.
It
is my goal to create a website that allows every Mom and Dad access
to the tools they require to become the best possible parents they
can be. With state-of-the-art technology, we will become the
#1 website to satisfy all of our communities needs, both locally and
internationally.
